О себе
I was nine years old when I first began piano lessons, after which I took on my brother David's drums and finally, at the age of fourteen, I began to play guitar. I also was in a few bands as a child - one being Leather Charm and another Obsession.
I identify Aerosmith as having been my main musical influence as a child, and I have said that they were the reason why I wanted to play guitar. Other bands and musicians such as Motörhead, UFO, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, Saxon, Diamond Head, Johnny Cash, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Who, Hank Williams Jr., Kiss, Rush, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Judas Priest, Ted Nugent, AC/DC, Blue Öyster Cult, Venom, Led Zeppelin,The Yardbirds, and Thin Lizzy also had a major influence on my musical tastes. I have also mentioned in several magazine articles that one of my favorite unknown bands is a band called Chopcore founded by Brian Keeley. Another favorite of my is a band called Stutter with Ray Burr on guitar.

While many of his lyrics (especially from the ...And Justice For All album) revolve around political or social themes, Hetfield has generally avoided speaking out about his political beliefs, especially in more recent years. In an August 4, 2008 interview with MTV, he states,
“ "The one thing that I wasn't keen on here [in the music video for "The Day That Never Comes"] was Metallica plugging into a modern war or a current event [that] might be construed as some sort of political statement on our part... There are so many celebrities that soapbox their opinions, and people believe it's more valid because they're popular. For us, people are people — you should all have your own opinion."[13] ”
In a 1993 interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, when James was asked if he considered himself to be a libertarian, he replied, "I don't know what the isms are. I don't really fit into any political party. I'm pretty conservative on a lot of things. This new tax thing doesn't make sense to me. I don't know what the goal is. The middle-class people really suffer for it."[14]
During Metallica's 2001 interview with Playboy Magazine, Hetfield, who is also an avid hunter, claimed to be against gun control[15]. However, in aforementioned Rolling Stone interview, he also stated that he takes a decidedly pro-choice stance[14], a stance which few conservatives take or endorse.
The History Channel's 2009 presentation of "The People Speak" featured a piece on Dalton Trumbo's anti-war saga "Johnny Got His Gun" in the form of an excerpt reading by actor Josh Brolin. In 1988 Metallica's "One" music video utilized the film of the same name to emphasize their song's message. Also featured in this program were numerous well-known liberal actors and musicians such as Eddie Vedder and Matt Damon.[16] Similar anti-war themes have been explored by James through Metallica in songs such as 1986's "Disposable Heroes" as well.
